Health benefits at a glance:
Melatonin, know as the "sleep hormone" is is naturally produced in the body, primarily during the night. It's derived from tryptophan and plays a key role in regulating the circadian rhythm, also known as your “body clock” and sleep-wake cykle. However, people who struggle with sleep may not produce enough melatonin at the right time. (1-3)
Melatonin IR/XR provides a dual-action formula to help you fall asleep quickly and stay asleep all night long. It combines immediate-release and extended-release melatonin for approximately seven hours of healthy sleep support.
Why it works:
Natural production of this hormone declines with age. Excessive screen use and daily stress can all also interfere with your circadian rhythm and as a result your quality of sleep.
A lack of quality, restful sleep can impact cognitive function, metabolic health, and more. (4-6) Sleep difficulties may involve trouble falling asleep, or waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to fall back asleep.
Melatonin IR/XR is an ideal sleep support supplement for people who have previously tried melatonin but still struggle with either falling asleep or staying asleep.
Moreover, research shows that melatonin does not only support natural sleep but offers a range of other health benefits as well.
These benefits include antioxidant support, DNA protection, immune system support, and support for cognitive health. (7-17)
The science behind the product:
Each capsule of Melatonin IR/XR delivers 1.5 mg of MicroActive® Melatonin, a unique combination of immediate- and extended-release melatonin.
Studies on immediate-release melatonin
An analysis of 15 clinical studies shows that standard melatonin can help fall asleep faster, sleep longer, and enhance overall sleep quality compared to a placebo. (18)
In one study, participants took 0.1 mg, 0.3 mg, or 3 mg of melatonin or a placebo 30 minutes before bed for three days. All three melatonin doses supported restorative sleep. (19)
In a more recent randomized placebo-controlled trial, subjects who took 0.5 mg of fast-release melatonin for four weeks fell asleep faster and experienced healthy, restful sleep compared to a placebo. (20)
Research on controlled-release melatonin
In a study examining controlled-release melatonin, 2 mg taken two hours before bed promoted healthy sleep compared to a placebo, while also reducing the time spent awake after falling asleep. (21)
Another placebo-controlled study found that participants reported improved sleep quality after taking 2 mg of extended-release melatonin before bed. (22)
Fall asleep and wake refreshed
